This month we’re giving you our view of the iconic Brabazon at The Belfry, the setting of no less than 4 Ryder Cup matches – making the the course the undoubted ‘spiritual home’ of the Ryder Cup.

The Course

The Brabazon is a serious test for any golfer, although fair and equally enjoyed at any skill level. Golfers will immediately appreciate the exceptional condition of the course from the tees through to the greens. There are a huge variety of holes from short par 3‘s to testing double dog-leg par 5’s. The Brabazon has positioned bunkers throughout and a beautiful, but challenging, aspect of the course is the presence of water on every hole on the front nine – with lakes flanking the fairways and streams protecting the front of most greens. Water is also present on the back 9, most recognisably on the driveable par 4 tenth, tempting many golfers to ‘go for it’ at the ultimate ‘risk & reward hole’, and on the long par 3 twelfth with its cascading waterfall coming down the right hand side of the green. There are then risky tee shots of the par 5 15th and 17th holes and then of course the tough 18th hole finishing with the huge 3 tiered green in front of the resort hotel make it a challenging finish. We believe all golfers should include the Brabazon on their golfing bucket list. Walk in the footsteps of legends and add your year to the Ryder Cup list of (1985, 1989, 1993 & 2002)

Key To Success

The keys to success on the Brabazon include well planned tee shots to negotiate the fairway bunkers, knowing the carry distance of your approach clubs to ensure the trouble fronting the greens is avoided at all costs, and great lag putting to avoid three putting on the large, fast and sloping greens. Another tip for those who play it for the first time would be to choose which tee you play off wisely and make sure you have a course guide with you. And if it is your first time, you simply ‘have’ to go for the green on the 10th!

Been fortunate to play the Brabazon twice now..
My first visit was while playing with Stuart Broad, Joe Root and Neil Waine in their Ryder cup…What an experience that was!
Since then I played the Brab again with pals and then their (inland links) course with Neil again…
Always excited to know I’m heading to The Belfry, such a lovely atmosphere with superb service too 👌
